Choose a From date and a To date and this calculator counts the working days between them, Monday to Friday, alongside the number of weekend days and the total. It is useful for project plans, delivery promises, leave requests and any deadline stated in working days rather than calendar days.
How the count works
- Both the From date and the To date are included in the count.
- Monday to Friday count as business days; Saturday and Sunday count as weekend days.
- If the To date is earlier than the From date, the two are swapped automatically, so the order does not matter.
- Public holidays are not removed, because they differ by country, state and employer.
The result shows Business days, Weekend days and Total days, where the total is simply the two added together.
Example: October 2026
From 1 October 2026 to 31 October 2026 gives 31 total days, 9 weekend days and 22 business days. Gandhi Jayanti, 2 October, falls on a Friday in 2026, so an office that closes for it actually works 21 days that month. Subtract every holiday that falls on a weekday in your range; holidays that land on a Saturday or Sunday are already excluded.
A few more reference counts: April 2026 has 22 business days, October to December 2026 has 66, and the whole of 2026 has 261 before any holidays are removed.
Inclusive counting and "within X working days"
Because both ends are counted, a single weekday entered as both From and To gives 1 business day, while a Saturday gives 0 business days and 1 weekend day. If a rule means the days after a start date, such as "delivered within 5 working days of the order", do not count the order day itself: start the range on the following day, or subtract 1 from the result when the start date is a weekday.
When a Monday-to-Friday week does not fit
The calculator assumes a Saturday and Sunday weekend. Adjust the result yourself if your week is different:
- Six-day weeks: many Indian factories, shops and some offices work on Saturdays. Add the Saturdays in your range back to the business-day count.
- Bank working days in India: banks close on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month and open on the others, so include only the first, third and fifth Saturdays when estimating bank processing time.
- Other weekends: in countries with a Friday and Saturday weekend, such as Saudi Arabia, the count will not match local working days.
Calendar days versus business days
With five working days in every seven, 30 business days is roughly six calendar weeks, not four. Check which one an agreement means before promising a date: "net 30" payment terms on invoices usually mean calendar days, while SLAs, clearance times and notice periods written as "working days" follow business days.
