Tell this savings goal calculator how much you need and in how many months, and it splits the target into the amount to set aside each month, each week and each day. It suits short and medium goals such as a new phone, a festival budget, a trip, or a laptop before the next semester starts.
How the amounts are calculated
- Save per month = goal amount ÷ months
- Per week = goal amount ÷ (months × 4.345)
- Per day = goal amount ÷ (months × 30.44)
The two constants are average month lengths: a year of 365.25 days divided by 12 gives 30.44 days, and about 4.345 weeks. That is why the weekly figure is a little less than the monthly one divided by 4. The Months field is required; if it is empty the calculator asks for it.
With the placeholder values, ₹1,00,000 in 12 months works out to ₹8,333.33 a month, ₹1,917.91 a week or ₹273.76 a day.
More examples
| Goal | Per month | Per day |
|---|---|---|
| ₹60,000 laptop in 8 months | ₹7,500.00 | ₹246.39 |
| ₹3,00,000 emergency fund in 18 months | ₹16,666.67 | ₹547.53 |
| ₹1,00,000 trip in 12 months | ₹8,333.33 | ₹273.76 |
Seeing ₹246 a day next to ₹7,500 a month can make a goal feel more manageable, and the daily number is easy to compare with everyday spending such as food delivery or cab rides. When choosing the number of months, count the salary credits left before your deadline rather than calendar months; a goal due in mid-December with pay arriving on the first leaves fewer paydays than it first appears.
Adjustments the calculator leaves to you
- Money already saved. Subtract it first. If the goal is ₹1,00,000 and you have ₹25,000 put away, enter 75,000.
- Interest. The figures assume your savings earn nothing. Parking them in a recurring deposit or a savings account means you need slightly less each month, and the RD Calculator shows what a fixed monthly deposit grows to; for goals several years away, a SIP Calculator shows how growth changes the picture.
- Rising prices. For a goal two or more years off, inflate the target first with the Inflation Calculator, since the item will probably cost more by then.
Making the plan stick
- Set up a standing instruction or recurring deposit that moves the monthly amount out of your salary account on payday, before it can be spent.
- Keep goal money in a separate account so it does not blend into daily spending.
- With irregular income from freelancing or gig work, use the weekly or daily figure and transfer whenever money comes in.
- Round up: saving ₹8,500 instead of ₹8,333 builds a small buffer for price changes or a missed month.
For an emergency fund, a common guideline is three to six months of essential expenses. These amounts are planning estimates, not financial advice.
