Thanks for the feedback!
This converter turns PNG images into JPG files, which are far smaller for photos and accepted by virtually every website, form and app. Any transparent areas are filled with white, and you can set the JPG quality before downloading.
Transparent areas become white
JPG cannot store transparency, so the converter paints a white background behind your image before saving. A logo on a transparent background comes out as the logo on white, and a semi-transparent shadow blends into white as it would on a white page. There is no option for another background colour; if you need black or a brand colour, add it in an image editor before converting. If you want to keep transparency and still get a small file, PNG to WEBP is the better route.
When the file shrinks a lot, and when it doesn't
| PNG content | JPG result |
|---|---|
| Camera photo saved as PNG | Usually a small fraction of the size |
| Scanned document or certificate | Much smaller; fine for uploads |
| Screenshot with plenty of text | Smaller, but letters may get fuzzy halos |
| Flat logo or simple diagram | Little saving; edges can look blotchy |
The pattern is simple: JPEG is built for photographic images with smooth tonal changes, while PNG is better at large areas of flat colour and hard edges. Convert photos and scans; think twice about crisp graphics. The Result label above the preview shows the new size in KB next to the dimensions, which stay the same as the original.
Setting the quality slider
The Quality slider starts at 90%. For photos, 75–85% usually looks identical at a much smaller size. For scans and screenshots containing text, stay at 85% or above so letters remain clean. After clicking Process image, compare the file sizes shown above the previews, adjust and process again until you are happy, then press Download result.
Meeting upload requirements
Many Indian recruitment, exam and government portals accept only JPG or JPEG for photographs and signatures, often with a maximum size in KB. Phone screenshots and scanner apps frequently produce PNGs, which is when this tool helps. A practical order of steps:
- Crop away unnecessary borders.
- Resize to the pixel dimensions the portal asks for, if any, with the image resizer.
- Convert to JPG here, lowering the quality step by step until the file fits the KB limit while the face or signature stays sharp.
Steps 2 and 3 can also be done together: Resize Image in KB takes the PNG, sets the pixel size and saves a JPG under the KB limit you enter.
Keep the PNG if you will edit again
Each JPG save discards some detail. If the image is a design you are still working on, keep the PNG as your master and export JPG copies only when needed. Converting the JPG back to PNG later won't restore what was lost. The converter works inside your browser, so the image is never sent to a server.
