Thanks for the feedback!
The Time Converter changes a length of time between seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, 30-day months and 365-day years. It helps with turning a big count of seconds into something readable, writing a duration in hours for a timesheet, or checking how many weeks a notice period covers.
How to use it
Enter the amount in Value, pick its unit in From, pick the unit you want in To and press Convert. The answer appears first, followed by the same duration in every other unit, with up to six decimal places.
Fixed unit lengths used
| Unit | Seconds |
|---|---|
| 1 minute | 60 |
| 1 hour | 3,600 |
| 1 day | 86,400 |
| 1 week | 604,800 |
| 1 month (30d) | 2,592,000 |
| 1 year | 31,536,000 |
The month is always 30 days and the year always 365 days. Real months run from 28 to 31 days and leap years have 366, so for spans between two calendar dates the date difference calculator is the right tool. With these fixed lengths, a year works out to 8,760 hours or 52.142857 weeks, and a month to 4.285714 weeks.
Worked example: one million seconds
Enter 1000000, From second, To day:
1,000,000 ÷ 86,400 = 11.574074 days
The rows also give 16,666.666667 minutes, 277.777778 hours, 1.653439 weeks, 0.385802 months and 0.03171 years. In other words, a million seconds is a little over eleven and a half days. Durations of this size turn up in server uptime figures, cache expiry settings and API rate limits.
Decimal hours are not hours and minutes
Converting 135 minutes to hours gives 2.25. That means two and a quarter hours, or 2 h 15 min, not 2 h 25 min. To turn the decimal part back into minutes, multiply it by 60: 0.25 × 60 = 15. The distinction matters for billing: at ₹800 an hour, 2.25 hours is ₹1,800, while mistakenly billing "2.15 hours" would come to ₹1,720. Payroll and freelance timesheets that ask for decimal hours expect 7.5 for a 7 h 30 min shift, which is 450 minutes.
Other situations it helps with
- Notice periods: a 90-day notice period is 12.857143 weeks, or exactly three of the tool's 30-day months.
- Trials and warranties: a 14-day free trial is exactly 2 weeks or 336 hours, while a "1 year" warranty counted in 30-day months comes to 12.166667 months, because 365 days is slightly more than twelve of them.
- Study and project plans: 200 hours of preparation spread over a period shows up as 8.333333 days of round-the-clock time, a reminder to convert it into working hours per day instead.
- Durations, not dates: a Unix timestamp is a count of seconds since 1 January 1970. This tool will turn it into a number of days, but to see the calendar date use the Unix timestamp converter.
