Thanks for the feedback!

Pick a Deadline date, press Count down, and this calculator tells you how many days are left until that date, along with the same gap in weeks. Choose a date that has already passed and it shows how many days have gone by since. Students use it for exam countdowns, freelancers for delivery dates and families for weddings and trips.

How the count works

The gap is measured from the current moment on your device to the date you pick, and any part of a day is rounded up to a whole day. In everyday use that matches subtracting today's date from the deadline:

  • A deadline tomorrow shows 1 day.
  • Today's date shows 0 days remaining.
  • A past date switches the label to Days since.
  • The Weeks line is the day count divided by 7, to one decimal place.

Example: if today is 1 October and the deadline is 15 December, the result is 75 days, or 10.7 weeks. That is the 30 days left in October, 30 days of November and 15 days of December.

Turning the number into a plan

A countdown helps most when you divide the work by it. Say you have 18 chapters to revise and 75 days to go. Keep the final 15 days for mock tests and revision, which leaves 60 days for 18 chapters, or one chapter roughly every 3.3 days. Check the countdown each week: if the days left are falling faster than chapters are getting finished, you know early enough to adjust.

The same arithmetic works for a book manuscript (words left ÷ days left), a savings target (amount left ÷ days left) or a product launch checklist.

Weekends, holidays and working days

The count includes every calendar day, weekends and public holidays included. If your deadline depends on office days, such as a bank or government submission, use the business days calculator to count Monday to Friday only. To go the other way and find the date that falls a given number of days from today, use the add or subtract days calculator.

Countdowns worth setting

  • Board, university and entrance exam dates.
  • The income tax return due date, usually 31 July for individuals whose accounts do not need an audit.
  • Passport or visa expiry, so renewal starts in good time.
  • Client deadlines and project go-live dates.
  • Birthdays, anniversaries, weddings and holidays.

Good to know

The result depends on your device's date and time settings, so a phone with the wrong date gives a wrong count. Counting conventions also differ between calculators: some include both today and the deadline day, which adds one. For a countdown measured in minutes rather than days, the countdown timer ticks down to the second.

Frequently asked questions

Does the count include today?
The result is the gap between today and the deadline, the same as subtracting the dates. A deadline tomorrow normally shows 1 day and today's date shows 0.
What does Days since mean?
It appears when the date you chose is in the past, and shows how many days have passed since then.
Are weekends and holidays counted?
Yes, every calendar day counts. Use a business days calculator if you only want Monday to Friday.
Why does another website give me one more day?
Some calculators count both today and the deadline day. This one counts the gap between the two dates.
Can I count down to a date several years away?
Yes. Any future date works, and the weeks figure helps with long countdowns.
