Thanks for the feedback!
The Fancy Text Generator shows your text in four Unicode styles at once: bold, italic, small (superscript) and strikethrough. You can compare them side by side and copy whichever suits your bio, caption, username or comment, since the styles are made of special characters rather than formatting and keep their look when pasted.
What the output looks like
For the input "Sale ends today", pressing Make fancy gives:
Bold: 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆 Italic: 𝘚𝘢𝘭𝘦 𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘴 𝘵𝘰𝘥𝘢𝘺 Small: ˢᵃˡᵉ ᵉⁿᵈˢ ᵗᵒᵈᵃʸ Strikethrough: S̶a̶l̶e̶ ̶e̶n̶d̶s̶ ̶t̶o̶d̶a̶y̶
Each style is labelled and separated by an empty line. The Copy result button copies all four lines with their labels, so select just the styled text you want, or use a single-style tool such as the small text generator when you only need one.
How each style is built, and its quirks
Bold
Letters and digits are swapped for Unicode's sans-serif bold alphabet. Punctuation, accented letters and symbols stay regular.
Italic
Letters become sans-serif italic characters. Digits are left as normal numbers because Unicode has no italic digits, so "Quiz 24" becomes 𝘘𝘶𝘪𝘻 24.
Small
Text is first converted to lowercase, then each letter is replaced by a superscript "modifier letter" borrowed from phonetic notation. There is no superscript q in Unicode, so q stays full size, and digits are not changed. These letters come from different parts of Unicode, so in many fonts they sit at slightly different heights, giving an uneven look.
Strikethrough
A combining long stroke is added after every character, spaces included, which draws one continuous line through the text. How neat it looks depends on the font; in some apps the stroke sits a little high or low.
Picking the right style for the job
- Headings or a name in a bio: bold is the most legible.
- Titles of books, films or a quoted phrase: italic reads naturally.
- A subtle tagline or a joke aside: small text, kept short.
- Showing a changed price or a crossed-out plan, such as a struck-out old price beside the new one: strikethrough. See the strikethrough text generator for that style alone.
Where an app has its own formatting, use it instead. WhatsApp supports *bold*, _italic_ and ~strikethrough~ with those symbols around the words, and that text stays searchable and readable by screen readers.
Keep the important words plain
Styled characters are different code points from ordinary letters. People searching for your shop name will not find it if it is written only in fancy letters, and assistive software may read the characters strangely. A good pattern is one styled line for decoration with the essential details, such as name, city and contact, in normal text. Styled letters also take two code units each, which eats into character limits faster.
