PDF Page Counter tells you how many pages a PDF contains without opening it in a reader and scrolling to the end. Drop the file in, press Process, and a line such as "This PDF has 24 pages." appears under the button. It is useful before printing, before uploading to a portal with a page limit, or when checking that a scan or merge came out complete.
How the count is worked out
The tool reads the document's page tree, the internal list of pages that every PDF carries, and reports its length. It does not render the pages, so even a large file is counted quickly. Every page in the file is included: covers, blank separator pages and pages of different sizes all count. Printed page labels such as roman numerals in front matter make no difference; the answer is the physical number of pages.
The tool reports the page count only. To see the file size, check the file's details in your file manager, for example Properties on Windows or the details view in the Files app on a phone.
From pages to paper
Once you know the page count, working out the paper is simple arithmetic. For a 37-page document:
| Printing style | Calculation | Sheets |
|---|---|---|
| Single-sided | 37 | 37 |
| Double-sided | 37 ÷ 2, rounded up | 19 |
| 2 pages per side, double-sided | 37 ÷ 4, rounded up | 10 |
Print shops usually charge per printed side, so multiply the page count by the rate: at, say, ₹2 a side, 37 pages cost ₹74. To prepare a 2-up file for the cheapest option, use PDF 2-in-1.
Everyday checks
- Scans: compare the count with the number of sheets you fed in to catch a skipped or double-fed page.
- Merges: the merged file should have exactly the sum of the pages of its parts.
- Portal limits: if a form accepts at most, say, 10 pages, confirm before uploading and trim extras with Delete Pages.
- Per-page work: translation, typing and proofreading jobs are often quoted per page, so the count gives you the basis for a quote.
If something looks wrong
- Only the first file in the list is counted. Remove it to count the next one.
- A higher count than expected often means hidden blank pages, which a scanner may add for empty backs of sheets. Scroll through the file to find them, then remove them before printing or uploading.
- A lower count than expected after scanning usually points to two sheets that went through the feeder together.
- A file that is damaged or is not really a PDF shows an error instead of a count.
Counting takes place in your browser and the file is not uploaded.
