PDF to PNG renders every page of a PDF as a lossless PNG image. Pick a PDF, press Convert to PNG, and each page appears as a preview you can save individually. It is the better of the two image formats for pages made of text, lines and flat colour, such as spreadsheets, forms, charts and presentation slides.
Why PNG suits document pages
JPEG saves space by discarding detail, and the loss shows most around sharp edges: faint halos appear next to black letters and thin table borders. PNG discards nothing, so each pixel is stored exactly as it was drawn. Text looks clean even when you zoom into the image, and flat-coloured areas stay perfectly even. The cost is size: PNG files are larger than JPGs, especially for pages that contain photographs, where JPG is usually the more sensible pick.
Resolution you can expect
Each page is drawn at twice its size in PDF points, giving 144 pixels per inch. An A4 page becomes about 1190 × 1683 pixels. A widescreen PowerPoint slide saved as PDF measures 13.33 × 7.5 inches, so it comes out at 1920 × 1080 pixels, exactly Full HD. That makes this tool a neat way to turn a slide deck into images for social posts, a video or a website.
White background, not transparent
Pages are painted onto a white background before being saved, so the PNGs have no transparent areas. If you were hoping to lift a logo out of a PDF with a see-through background, you will need an image editor to remove the white afterwards.
Saving the images
- Wait for the progress message to finish; pages are rendered one after another.
- Press the Page N button under a preview to save it as
page-N.png, or right-click the image to copy it. - For files longer than 30 pages, only the first 30 are rendered. Break the PDF into parts with Split PDF and convert each part.
Good uses for PNG pages
- Embedding a chart, circuit diagram or flowchart from a report in documentation or a blog post.
- Posting slides on LinkedIn or in a WhatsApp group where people will zoom in on small text.
- Attaching a clear picture of an error screen or form page to a support ticket.
- Keeping an image copy of a filled form for your records.
If a PNG turns out too heavy to send, convert it with the PNG to JPG converter, or render the page directly with PDF to JPG. Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked before conversion, and a low-resolution scan inside the PDF will not become sharper as a PNG. The PDF is processed by your own browser, not a server.
