WhatsApp Link Generator

Create a wa.me click-to-chat link with a pre-filled message.

Thanks for the feedback!

WhatsApp Link Generator builds a wa.me click-to-chat link for a phone number, with an optional message that appears ready to send when the chat opens. Put the link in your Instagram bio, website button, email signature or Google Business Profile so people can start a conversation without saving your number.

Filling in the two fields

Enter the number in Phone (with country code). The tool keeps only the digits, so +91 98765-43210, (91) 98765 43210 and 919876543210 all give the same result. A 10-digit Indian mobile number gets India's code added (9876543210 → 919876543210), and a leading 0 or 00 is removed, because https://wa.me/9876543210 would be read as a +98 (Iran) number. For any other country, type the number with its code, such as 1 for the US and Canada, 44 for the UK or 971 for the UAE.

The large box is for the optional pre-filled message. Leave it empty for a plain chat link, or type the words you want to appear in the other person's typing area, then press Create link. Spaces at the start and end of the message are trimmed.

Example with a message

Phone +91 98765-43210 and the message Hi! I'd like to book a table for 4 at 8 pm produce:

https://wa.me/919876543210?text=Hi!%20I'd%20like%20to%20book%20a%20table%20for%204%20at%208%20pm

Spaces become %20. Characters with special meaning in URLs are encoded too: a comma turns into %2C, a line break into %0A, and an emoji such as 🥭 into %F0%9F%A5%AD. The exclamation mark and apostrophe are safe in URLs and stay as they are. When someone taps the link, WhatsApp decodes everything and shows your original wording.

Where click-to-chat links earn their place

  • Social bios: a link with a message like "Hi, I found you on Instagram" tells you which platform the enquiry came from.
  • Websites: attach the link to a "Chat with us" button; on phones it opens the app, and on computers it hands over to WhatsApp Web or the desktop app.
  • Print and packaging: turn the link into a scannable code with the WhatsApp QR Code Generator.
  • Comparing channels: create one link with "Hi (website)" and another with "Hi (flyer)" to see which brings more chats, without any analytics setup.

Limits and good practice

A pre-filled message is only a suggestion. The person can edit or delete it before sending, and nothing is ever sent automatically. Leave the number empty and type only a message to make a share link (https://wa.me/?text=…), which lets someone forward your message to a contact or group of their choice. Only publish links to numbers that expect messages, such as your own or your business's, and follow WhatsApp's rules against unsolicited bulk messaging. If you want to check or edit the encoded part of a link later, paste it into the URL Decoder. The link is assembled in your browser from what you type.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my WhatsApp link say the number isn't on WhatsApp?
Usually the country code is missing or a leading zero was included. Use the full international number with digits only, such as 919876543210.
Do I need to type the plus sign?
No. The tool removes plus signs, spaces, brackets and dashes automatically and keeps only the digits.
Will the message be sent automatically when someone clicks?
No. It appears in their typing box, and they decide whether to edit it and press send.
Can the pre-filled message have line breaks?
Yes. Press Enter in the message box; each line break is encoded as %0A and appears as a new line in WhatsApp.
Does a wa.me link work on a computer?
Yes. On a computer it opens a WhatsApp page that passes the chat to WhatsApp Web or the desktop app.
