This builder creates a clean, single-column resume that applicant tracking systems (ATS) can read reliably, with a live preview beside the form and a Download PDF button. It starts in the plain ATS style, and you can switch to the Modern or Professional look from the Style menu if you are sending the file to a person rather than uploading it to a portal.
What you fill in
- Header: full name, job title, email, phone, city and country, and a LinkedIn or portfolio URL. The contact details appear on one line separated by dots.
- Professional summary: two or three sentences.
- Skills: a comma-separated list, such as "Excel, Tally, GST filing, SQL".
- Experience: role, company, dates, and achievements with one point per line; each line becomes a bullet. Each job, internship or major project gets its own block via + Add experience, and a block you no longer want disappears with its Remove link.
- Education: degree, institution and year, with + Add education for more entries.
The preview updates as you type. Sections appear in a fixed order (Summary, Skills, Experience, Education), and empty sections are left out, so a fresher with no work history can leave Experience blank.
Why this layout suits applicant tracking systems
An ATS such as Workday, Taleo or Greenhouse, and the resume parsers on job portals, extract text from your file to fill in fields and match keywords. They are easily confused by multi-column layouts, tables, text inside images, and contact details hidden in page headers. The ATS style avoids all of these: one column, standard section headings, a plain Arial-family font, no graphics and no colour. Because the PDF is produced by your browser's print function, the text stays selectable, which is what parsers need; a scanned or image-only resume often gets read as blank.
Downloading the PDF correctly
- Click Download PDF. A new window opens with just the resume, so allow pop-ups for the site if it is blocked.
- In the print dialog, set the destination to Save as PDF.
- Choose A4 for Indian and most international applications, or Letter for US employers.
- Untick Headers and footers so the date and page address are not printed on your resume.
- Save it with a clear name such as "Priya-Nair-Resume.pdf".
Your details are not stored, so refreshing or closing the page clears the form. Keep your text in a document if you plan to edit it later.
Writing content that gets shortlisted
- Mirror the job description. If the posting says "financial reporting", use that phrase rather than a synonym. The resume keyword checker compares your text against a job ad.
- Quantify achievements: "Reduced month-end closing from 7 days to 4" beats "Responsible for closing".
- Add your latest job first, because entries appear in the order you add them.
- Keep dates consistent, for example "Jan 2023 – Present" on every entry.
- Put certifications and projects where they fit: certificates can go in Education or Skills, and a major project or internship can be an Experience entry.
Leave out the photo, date of birth, religion and marital status that Indian biodata formats traditionally include; most private employers do not need them, and they take space from your achievements. If an employer specifically asks for a biodata, the biodata generator provides that format.
