Thanks for the feedback!

The Lowercase Converter changes every capital letter in your text to its small form, so "HELLO World, THIS is Priya from PUNE" becomes "hello world, this is priya from pune". It fixes text typed with Caps Lock on and prepares data such as email lists, hashtags and code where consistent case matters.

What gets converted

The conversion follows Unicode's case rules, so it handles far more than A to Z:

  • Accented capitals: É becomes é, Ñ becomes ñ.
  • Greek and Cyrillic: ΣΟΦΙΑ becomes σοφια, and a capital sigma at the end of a Greek word correctly becomes the final form ς.
  • Full-width letters, often seen in text copied from Chinese or Japanese sources, become full-width small letters.

Some characters are deliberately left alone:

  • Digits, punctuation, emoji and spaces.
  • Scripts without capital letters, including Devanagari and all other Indian scripts.
  • Unicode "styled" letters, such as bold 𝗕𝗼𝗹𝗱 text from font generators, which have no lowercase mapping. Run them through the accent remover first if you need them plain.
  • German ß, which is already a lowercase letter.

One language-specific catch: the Turkish capital İ (with a dot) becomes an "i" followed by a separate combining dot, which may look like a doubled dot in some fonts.

Practical reasons to lowercase

Cleaning email and username lists

Domain names ignore case and major email providers treat the part before the @ the same way, so "Rahul.K@Gmail.com" and "rahul.k@gmail.com" reach one inbox. Lowercasing a list before removing duplicates stops the same person appearing twice.

Code, URLs and file names

CSS class names, HTML attribute values and many configuration keys are conventionally lowercase. URL paths and Linux file names are case-sensitive, so "/Images/Logo.png" and "/images/logo.png" are different files on most web servers, while Windows would treat them as the same. Lowercasing everything avoids broken links when a site moves from a Windows laptop to a Linux host.

Hashtags and keywords

Keyword research tools and spreadsheets often treat "Diwali Sale" and "diwali sale" as separate entries. Lowercase first, then merge.

Undoing too much lowercase

Converting a whole paragraph also lowercases names, places, acronyms and the word "I". In the example above, "Priya" and "Pune" lost their capitals. For readable prose, use the sentence case converter instead, which capitalises the first letter of each sentence, then fix proper nouns by hand. To go the other way, the uppercase converter turns everything into capitals.

Before you convert passwords or codes

Passwords, coupon codes, API keys and some booking references are case-sensitive, so lowercasing them changes their value. Keep the original if there is any chance the capitals matter.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert all caps text to lowercase?
Paste the text and press the lowercase button. Every capital letter becomes a small letter while numbers and punctuation stay the same.
Does the lowercase converter work with accented letters?
Yes. Accented capitals such as É, Ü and Ñ are converted to é, ü and ñ.
Why did my bold Unicode text not change?
Styled Unicode letters from font generators have no lowercase version, so they are left as they are.
Will converting to lowercase affect Hindi text?
No. Hindi and other Indian scripts have no capital letters, so they pass through unchanged.
Are email addresses case-sensitive?
Domain names never are, and major providers ignore case before the @ too, so lowercasing addresses is normally safe and helps spot duplicates.
