Thanks for the feedback!
The Uppercase Converter changes every letter in your text to its capital form, leaving digits, spaces, punctuation and line breaks untouched. It is the quick fix for forms that demand BLOCK LETTERS, for codes that must be written in capitals, and for headings and labels you want to stand out.
What the conversion does to different characters
- English letters: a to z become A to Z.
- Accented letters: é becomes É and ï becomes Ï, following Unicode case rules.
- Special cases: the German ß becomes SS and the ligature fi becomes FI, so the text can grow by a character or two.
- No case to change: Hindi, Tamil, Bengali and other Indic scripts, Chinese and Japanese have no capital letters and come out unchanged. Numbers, ₹ and other symbols are also untouched.
- Same result everywhere: the conversion does not depend on your device language, so a Turkish i becomes a plain I rather than the dotted İ.
Indian documents and codes that use capitals
| Item | Format |
|---|---|
| PAN | 5 letters, 4 digits, 1 letter: ABCDE1234F |
| IFSC | 4 letters, 0, then 6 characters: SBIN0001234 |
| GSTIN | 15 characters, letters in capitals |
| Vehicle number | MH 12 AB 1234 style |
Many banking, passport and exam forms also ask for names and addresses in capital letters. For example:
Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram - pin 110022 ifsc: sbin0001234
becomes
DELHI PUBLIC SCHOOL, R.K. PURAM - PIN 110022 IFSC: SBIN0001234
Converting before you paste avoids a rejected form or a mismatch when a portal compares your entry with records stored in capitals.
Readability: when capitals hurt
Text in all capitals is generally slower to read in long passages, partly because every word becomes a block of the same height without the rising and falling letters that help the eye. In emails and chats, a message written entirely in capitals is widely read as shouting. Keep uppercase for short items: headings, labels, buttons, codes, warnings and signage. Also avoid converting anything case-sensitive, such as passwords, some coupon codes and the part of a web address after the domain name, because the capitalised version may simply stop working.
For web developers there is a better option than converting the source text: the CSS rule text-transform: uppercase displays text in capitals while the underlying content stays in normal case, which keeps copy-paste, search and translation working naturally.
Going back to normal case
Converting to uppercase throws away the original capitalisation, so keep a copy if you might need it. To recover readable text from capitals, the Sentence Case Converter restores sentence-style capitals, the lowercase converter makes everything small, and the text case converter lets you switch between styles in one place. Names and acronyms will still need a manual check after any of those conversions.
