Thanks for the feedback!
Reverse Words flips the order of the words in your text while keeping each word spelled normally, so Practice makes a man perfect. becomes perfect. man a makes Practice. It is handy for word-order puzzles, language exercises and quick checks of how a sentence reads backwards.
How the tool splits and rebuilds your text
- A "word" is any run of characters between whitespace. Punctuation belongs to the word it touches, which is why the full stop above travels with perfect and a comma stays on the word before it.
- The entire input is treated as one sequence, not line by line. The last word of the last line becomes the first word of the result.
- The reversed words are joined with single spaces. Line breaks, blank lines, tabs and double spaces all disappear, so multi-line text always comes back as one line.
For example, one two, three four, a blank line and five give five four three two one.
Worked examples
| Input | Output |
|---|---|
Hello, world! How are you? | you? are How world! Hello, |
Sharma Priya | Priya Sharma |
red orange yellow green | green yellow orange red |
Capital letters are not moved or fixed, so "Practice" keeps its capital P even though it now sits at the end. If you want a tidy result, use a case converter afterwards.
Practical uses
- Language practice: teachers scramble a sentence by reversing it and ask learners to restore the order, which exercises grammar and word order in English or any language written with spaces.
- Name order: switching "Surname Given-name" to "Given-name Surname" for a single name, useful when forms and certificates use different conventions. Do one name at a time, because a list of names on separate lines would be merged into one reversed line.
- Puzzles and social posts: a reversed sentence is readable with a little effort, which makes it a light challenge for quizzes and captions.
- Checking sequences: reverse a space-separated series of values or steps to view it from the other end.
Limits and the right alternative
Because every line break is removed, this is not the tool for reversing each line separately or for reversing a list. For a list, Reverse Lines keeps each item on its own line and flips their order. To spell the text backwards letter by letter, use the Text Reverser.
Languages that do not put spaces between words, such as Chinese, Japanese or Thai, will not be split into words at all; a whole sentence counts as one word and comes back unchanged. Hindi and other Indian languages written with spaces work normally.
