Thanks for the feedback!
The Text Reverser writes your text backwards, character by character, so Hello, World! becomes !dlroW ,olleH. It is used for puzzles, palindrome checks, playful social posts and programming exercises where you need to confirm what a reversed string should look like.
What gets reversed
The entire input is treated as one string and every character is flipped, including spaces, punctuation and line breaks. For multi-line text that means two things happen at once: the order of the lines is reversed, and each line is spelled backwards. Madam on line one and Never odd or even on line two come out as:
neve ro ddo reveN madaM
Capital letters are not changed, which is why "Madam" turns into "madaM" and the result is not an exact match even though the word is a palindrome.
Checking palindromes and fun reversals
A palindrome reads the same in both directions once you ignore case, spaces and punctuation. To test one here:
- Lowercase the text and remove spaces and punctuation first (for example "Never odd or even" becomes "neveroddoreven").
- Reverse it and compare. If both strings match, it is a palindrome.
Some words become different real words when reversed, which makes good quiz material: stressed turns into desserts, drawer into reward, and live into evil. Classic palindromic sentences to test with the method above include "Was it a car or a cat I saw" and "A man, a plan, a canal: Panama".
Where reversing breaks text
The reverser works on UTF-16 code units, the building blocks JavaScript uses to store text, rather than on whole visible characters. Plain English is unaffected, but some content does not survive:
- Emoji are stored as two units and come out as broken boxes or question marks once their halves are swapped.
- Hindi, Tamil, Bengali and other Indic scripts use vowel signs and joining marks that attach to the preceding letter. Reversed, they attach to the wrong letter or float alone, so नमस्ते turns into an unreadable string.
- Accented letters typed as a base letter plus a combining accent may end up with the accent on the neighbouring letter.
Reversal is not encryption
Backwards text hides a spoiler or a quiz answer from a quick glance, but anyone can reverse it again in seconds. Do not use it to protect passwords, phone numbers or anything private.
