How to Write an Instagram Bio That Gets Followers (Formula + Free Generator)
Visitors decide to follow or leave within seconds, and your bio โ all 150 characters of it โ does most of the convincing. Here's the formula that consistently converts profile visits into followers.
The four-line formula
Line 1 โ who you help / what you do: "Helping freelancers get paid on time" beats "Entrepreneur | Dreamer | Coffee lover". Specific wins. Line 2 โ proof or personality: a number ("120+ brand collabs"), a credential, or one genuinely funny line. Line 3 โ what followers get: "Daily 60-sec marketing tips". Line 4 โ call to action pointing at your link: "Free templates โ".
Make every character count
At 150 characters you can't afford filler. Cut "Welcome to my profile", drop hashtags from the bio (they help discovery in captions, not bios), and use line breaks โ a wall of text gets skimmed past. Check your length with the character counter before saving; Instagram silently truncates at the limit.
Emojis: seasoning, not soup
One emoji per line as a visual bullet works (๐ for location, ๐ before your link). Six in a row reads as noise. Match them to your niche โ a finance page with ๐๐๐ sets a very different expectation than ๐๐.
Generate, then edit
Stuck staring at a blank field? The free Instagram bio generator drafts bios from your keywords โ generate a few, steal the best lines, and rewrite them in your voice. Pair it with the username generator if the handle itself is still undecided, and the hashtag generator for your captions.
Test it like a marketer
Change one line every two weeks and watch your profile-visit-to-follow rate in Instagram's built-in insights. Bios aren't tattoos โ the accounts that grow treat them as the conversion copy they are.
