Thanks for the feedback!
Extract Numbers pulls every number out of a block of text and lists them one per line, ready to paste into a spreadsheet column or a calculator. It is handy for bank and UPI messages, copied invoices, lab readings, marks lists and any text where the figures are mixed in with words.
What the extractor recognises
- Whole numbers:
42,2025 - Decimals with one decimal point:
3.5,302.75 - Negative numbers, when a minus sign or hyphen is directly in front:
-2.5
Everything else, including letters, currency signs, percent signs, commas and plus signs, is treated as a separator.
A clean example
From a marks message:
Maths 92 Science 85 English 78
the result is 92, 85 and 78 on separate lines. Paste them into the average calculator or a spreadsheet and you have the average in seconds.
Formats that get split apart
Because only a plain decimal point is understood, formatted numbers come out in pieces. Knowing how helps you prepare the text:
| In the text | Extracted as |
|---|---|
| Rs 2,450.00 | 2 and 450.00 |
| ₹1,25,000 | 1, 25 and 000 |
| 12/03/2025 | 12, 03 and 2025 |
| 2025-03-12 | 2025, -03 and -12 |
| pages 10-20 | 10 and -20 |
| +91 98765 43210 | 91, 98765 and 43210 |
| version 2.0.1 | 2.0 and 1 |
| 50% off | 50 |
Two rows need special attention. The hyphen in a range or an ISO date is read as a minus sign, so "10-20" yields a negative 20. And thousands separators, whether in the Indian lakh style or the international style, break one amount into several numbers. Leading zeros are kept exactly as written, so you may see "03" or "000".
Preparing text for accurate results
- If commas in your text are only thousands separators, delete them first with Find and Replace (find "," and leave the replacement empty). Then "Rs 2,450.00" gives 2450.00.
- Replace hyphens in ranges and dates with a space so they are not read as minus signs.
- Remove spaces inside phone numbers if you want each number as one value.
Do not strip commas when they separate items in a list, such as "3,4,5", or those values will merge into 345.
Practical uses
- Totalling amounts from a batch of UPI or bank SMS alerts copied from your phone.
- Pulling measurements out of experiment notes for a lab report graph.
- Getting quantities or prices from a supplier's message into a spreadsheet.
- Collecting order or ticket numbers mentioned in a long email thread.
If nothing appears after you press Extract, the text contains no digits. To do the opposite and keep the words while deleting the digits, use Remove Numbers from Text.
